What’s A Mat-jib?

Hello and welcome.

We are a Korean /Australian couple hunting out  Mat-Jibs and great food while living in Korea. We may be biased but we believe that Korea offers some of the best food in the world. Hidden in kooky places and  made of epic proportions, it’s capable of creating a party for the taste buds. Check out this link for a little science on taste sensations.

So what is a Mat-Jib? It’s a restaurant that provides delicious food, made famous both through word of mouth and online. Be it in a watery rank alley stinking to heaven of fish, kimchi and sh*t or tucked away in a lush shady valley, numerous abound throughout Korea. Mat (맛) meaning taste and Jib (집) meaning house = ‘tasty house’.

맛집이 무엇이냐고 물어보실 한국인은 없겠지요? 그래도 혹시 모를 한국어를 하실 줄 아시는 외국인 분들을 위해 설명을 드립니다. 맛집은 아주 맛있는 음식을 파는 식당의 줄임 이라 할 수 있습니다. 제 와이프의 표현을 빌리자면 맛집은 냄새나고, 더럽고, 구석지거나 산골에 있을 수도 있다는 군요.(웃음) 네 이렇게 어디에나 있을 수 있는게 맛집인데요, 잘 알려지지 않은 맛집도 있고 아주 잘 알려진 맛집도 있습니다.
